Prof. Srinivas Govindrajan

Some teachers are born. Some are made. Others become teachers without realizing it.  Srinivas Govindrajan (Govind) falls in the third category.

Till Class 12, he was taking tutorials for classmates in Maths. Through B.Com and at IIMA it was for accountancy and costing. All of it unplanned. All of it for a lark. And all of it gratis!

He joined the industry, with stints in FMCG, Advertising and Management Consultancy after passing out of IIMA. He was widely acknowledged as the least likely member of his batch to become a Professor.

His entry into Academics was equally inadvertent. He had come home for a vacation when he was in between jobs. He had dropped in to see a new B-School in his hometown called Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) and was wandering around the campus in shorts. He bumped into Fr. George, Dean Administration of XIMB, and being suspected as a trespasser because of the attire, was asked to introduce himself. When Fr. George heard that Govind had worked in an Advertising Agency and was suitably qualified, he feverishly asked him whether he could teach Advertising to 2nd Year MBA students since they were not able to find a faculty and the course was starting the next day.

Govind took the course the next day. And stayed in academics. And has been there for 25+ years. He is teaching/has taught at Praxis Business School, Kolkata (where he is the Dean), XIM, Bhubaneswar, XLRI, Jamshedpur and IIMs Kolkata, Lucknow, Udaipur, Raipur and Shillong. He teaches disorganized common sense. Which is also called Marketing.
